A Trip on the Cooperstown Beverage Trail

About 11 month(s) ago by Cooperstown Getaway

While Cooperstown, NY is known for baseball (and rightfully so!), we have a large selection of things for our visitors to enjoy during their stay here. Museums, dining, outdoor recreation, the list goes on and on. However, there is a reason the slogan “A drinking town with a baseball problem” came to be. With craft breweries and wineries on the rise in Cooperstown, NY, we want to take you on a brief tour of many of the stops that can be found along the Cooperstown Beverage Trail.

Brewery Ommegang http://www.ommegang.com

The most well-known brewery located in Cooperstown is Brewery Ommegang. Built in 1997, they were the first farmstead brewery built in the USA in over 100 years. They have many award winning beers, so you can’t go wrong with any selection you try. Witte and 3 Philosophers are two of our favorites! If you are a Game of Thrones fan, you may want to check out their line of beers named for the series.

Cooperstown Distillery http://www.cooperstowndistillery.com

If you are in the mood for spirits, Cooperstown Distillery offers six options for you to choose from. Their in-house made bourbon, whiskey, gin, rum, and two different vodka options offer something for every palate. You can also stop into the brand new Beverage Exchange on Main St. and enjoy one of their signature cocktails created with their products or head over to the actual distillery for a tour and tasting.

Cooperstown Brewing https://www.cooperstownbrewing.com

Cooperstown Brewing has been handcrafting English Ales, Porters, and Stouts since 1995. Located just 6 miles south of Cooperstown in the town of Milford, they offer daily tastings, free tours and more. With choices such as Old Slugger and Bench Warmer, their selections are a perfect addition to your trip to Cooperstown.

Rustic Ridge Winery http://rusticridgewinery.com

Our first winery on this list opened in 2010 and is right outside Cooperstown in Burlington Flats. Working closely with a small, well-established winery and vineyard in the Finger Lakes region, Rustic Ridge offers a diverse selection of New York State produced and bottled wines for your tasting pleasure. If you like sweet wines, make sure you try their popular Wildcat!

Butternuts Beer & Ale http://www.butternutsbeerandale.com

Butternuts Beer & Ale is located on a converted dairy farm just outside of Cooperstown. Whether you are searching for an IPA (their Snapperhead is fantastic!) or something a little darker (their Moo Thunder Stout is never a bad choice) Butternuts has you covered. And if you can resist trying a beer called Porkslap, you are more resilient than us. Take a second to appreciate the unique design on each can during your tasting.

Fly Creek Cider Mill & Orchard http://www.flycreekcidermill.com

The Fly Creek Cider Mill & Orchard is a historic, water-powered mill on the banks of Fly Creek in the heart of beautiful Central New York just minutes from Cooperstown. Not only can you taste their delicious hard ciders and apple wines, but they offer samples of over 40 specialty food products every day! This is a great place for the whole family to stop.

Bear Pond Winery https://www.bearpondwines.com

Bear Pond Winery was established in 2000 and their vineyard was started the same year on a gentle hillside on the property. Currently the winery produces 27 different and distinctive wines ranging from dry reds and whites to the sweet varieties; fruit, dessert and a mead (honey) wine. Tastings are $3 for your choice of 6 wines and are guided by one of their friendly and informative staff members.

The List is Growing

On top of the established Beverage Trail locations, we have many upcoming breweries and wineries that will be added to the Trail very soon. Places like Pail Shop Winery, Red Shed Brewery and more are continuing to bring delicious beverages for you to enjoy during your trip to Cooperstown, NY.
