1. A good pair of shoes
We’ll start our list at the bottom…comfortable shoes. With all there is to see and do in Cooperstown you’ll be on the move, so good shoes are a must! Whether you’re checking out the shops on Main Street, sightseeing in Glimmerglass State Park, or exploring one of our many fascinating museums…keeping your feet happy is essential!
2. An Appetite
With all your explorations around town, you’re sure to build up an appetite for good food and drink! Luckily for you, Cooperstown offers many excellent places to relax and refuel. Our best recommendations? Stop in at the Hawkeye Grill for a meal, plus a view of beautiful Lake Otsego. To quench your thirst, get a taste of all of Cooperstown’s breweries and wineries with a trip down the Beverage Trail.
Whether it’s capturing the natural beauty all around you, or just fun shots of your favorite stops, you’ll want to make sure you have your camera ready! Luckily for most folks, catching that special moment is as close as your cell phone. Or, bring your camera from home; you’ll have plenty of opportunities to use it on your trip to Cooperstown.
4. Baseball mitt
In a town seen as practically the birth place of baseball, it would seem like a missed opportunity to not play a game of catch while you’re here. So, after your tour of the Baseball Hall of Fame, take a minute to throw a few fastballs in the park right next door. Want something a little more traditional? Take a step back in time and check out Double Day Field; it’s like playing catch in a different era.
5. Golf clubs
While you’re here, take advantage of the beautiful Leatherstocking Golf Course. Positioned right on Lake Otsego, Leatherstocking is one of the east coasts most scenic and challenging resort golf courses. Take some time to break out the clubs and play a round, there’s even an island hole!
6. A bathing suit and your favorite water activity
If you’re visiting in the spring or summer, there is a good chance the weather will be perfect for a lazy day on Lake Otsego. Depending on whether you want to swim, sail, motor, or sightsee - bring your own boat or bicycle - or choose from the myriad rental options around Cooperstown. Want to experience a beautiful view of the lake poolside? The Otesaga Resort Hotel offers all their guests that exact option!
7. The whole family
While Cooperstown is famous for the Baseball Hall of Fame, that doesn’t mean it’s a vacation destination only baseball fans will love. Cooperstown has activities for every member of the family to enjoy. There’s the Beverage Trail, The Farmers’ Museum, the Fenimore Art Museum… or just gazing Lake Otsego, known as Glimmerglass in James Fenimore Cooper’s novels.
