Fun-Filled Family Itinerary

Cooperstown is always jumping in summertime, and it's easy to understand why. With the natural beauty of the landscape and so many activities to enjoy, there's no shortage of ways to keep the whole family occupied. Here's our itinerary for packing in as much fun as possible while visiting Cooperstown.

Day One

The Farmers' Museum

Start off your day with a trip back in time at The Farmers' Museum, where the whole family can stroll the country village, learning about 19th century agricultural life along the way. Be sure to visit with the farm animals as you go, particularly the babies in the Children's Barnyard. Of course, no trip to The Farmers' Museum is complete without a ride on the Empire State Carousel! Choose your favorite animal to ride on, whether it's Becky Bunny, Grandpa Goat, or one of the other hand-carved animals.Throughout the summer, there's a full slate of family programming including Preschool Tuesdays, family tours on Wednesdays and Saturdays, and Homestead Helpers on Wednesdays. Don't forget to check out the new Grow Patch, a hands-on play and learn area for children.

Fenimore Art Museum

A short walk across the street, you'll find world-class exhibitions housed in the Fenimore Art Museum. The whole family can explore the permanent displays of American folk art and the Thaw Collection of American Indian Art. Throughout the summer, visitors can get amped up viewing photographs of iconic musicians in the exhibit Herb Ritts: The Rock Portraits. When you're done inside, grab a bite to eat outside on the terrace of the Fenimore Cafe–overlooking Otsego Lake.

Hawkeye Bar & Grill

Finish off your fun day of activities with dinner at Hawkeye Bar & Grill. The menu of classic American fare offers something for everyone, including their Butcher's Burger or stone-fired pizzas and a delicious kids' menu. Can't get enough of the lake views? Dine outside on the patio with the family and watch the sunset over Otsego Lake.
Trip Tip: End your day of fun on a sweet note with a stroll down Main Street for some ice cream!
Day Two

National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum

The ultimate stop for baseball fans, the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum is full of amazing artifacts and fun interactive displays. Make sure you give yourself plenty of time to explore three floors of fascinating exhibits, including the newest permanent exhibit Shoebox Treasures, which details the history of baseball card collecting. Of course, many families will make the trip this July 19-21 for Hall of Fame Induction Weekend, which is full of family-friendly activities for all generations of fans, including PLAY Ball with Ozzie Smith as well as the Hall of Fame Legends Parade and of course, the Induction Ceremony.
Trip Tip: Gray skies ruining your perfect summer day? Forget those rainy day blues with a trip to the Clark Sports Center! Visitors can pay for a day pass and enjoy swimming in the pool, climbing the indoor rock wall, or the kids' game room.

Explore the Outdoors

One of the best ways to experience Cooperstown is by getting out on the lake! Whether you're swimming, paddling, fishing, or simply dipping your toes in the water, the crystal clear waters of Otsego Lake are too enticing to pass up. Visitors to Glimmerglass State Park can swim, hike, or play on the playground. For more ideas on how to get out into nature, check out Otsego Outdoors for hiking and other outdoor ideas.
Trip Tip: Staying at The Otesaga Resort Hotel? Guests can rent kayaks, paddleboards, or canoes and enjoy access to the lake.
