With so much to see and do in Cooperstown, you're bound to work up a hearty appetite. Whether you're planning a day of exploring the local museums, visiting The National Baseball Hall of Fame, or playing a round of golf, make sure you plan to taste some of the culinary delights that Cooperstown has to offer. You'll be happy you did after paying a visit to a few of these outstanding eateries!
1. Hawkeye Bar and Grill
Renowned for their Butcher's Burger, ground fresh daily from local beef and served on a bun made in-house, the Hawkeye Bar and Grill at the Otesaga Resort Hotel is a favorite destination for visitors and locals alike. They offer a seasonally diverse menu featuring classic comfort foods and regional specialties as well as a wide selection of beer, wine, and craft cocktails. Enjoy beautiful views of Lake Otsego from the dining room or under an umbrella on their seasonal patio.
Bonus! The Hawkeye Bar and Grill is very convenient, located less than a mile from both the Fenimore Art Museum and The Farmers' Museum.
Believe it or not, there are two noteworthy eateries at The Otesaga. While Hawkeye Bar & Grill is just a bit more casual, Glimmerglass is the perfect stop for any dinner occasion. You won't find anything like their locally-focused dishes, where the produce is just as good as the protein. From cauliflower steaks to in-house dry-aged prime beef steaks, their beautiful plates match the breathtaking view of Lake Otsego.
Glimmerglass and Hawkeye Bar and Grill are located at 60 Lake St in Cooperstown.
3. Fenimore Cafe
You can sit inside or out, but we bet you'll choose outside! The view is stunning, with tables lining the terrace and surrounded by lush plants and flowers. Best for a light lunch, Fenimore Cafe serves soups, wraps, sandwiches, and dessert. All of this alongside an array of beverages, as well as beer and wine. Plus, the art museum is a great place to spend the morning and work up an appetite.
Fenimore Cafe is located at 5798 State Highway 80 in Cooperstown.
4. Alex's Bistro
The first thing you'll see on the menu at Alex's Bistro is the desserts. They are front and center, right at the top and sound oh so appetizing! When on vacation, it's okay to indulge in dessert first, right? In that case, Maple Crème' Brûlée is a lovely appetizer to compliment the beer battered wild Atlantic cod found in the Fish & Chips entrée or house roasted pork belly featured in the Pork Belly Ramen dish. Creative and eclectic options will please the entire family at Alex's Bistro.
Alex's Bistro is located at 149 Main Street in downtown Cooperstown.
5. Upstate Bar and Grill
Cooperstown's latest addition, Upstate Bar and Grill is already a hotspot with a fantastic selection of sandwiches, burgers, and big plate entrees like prime rib and fried chicken; not to mention an extensive craft beer menu. Relax by the outdoor fire pit or saddle up to the bar for a refreshing cocktail after a long day touring the museums or exploring the outdoors.
The Upstate Bar and Grill can be found at 5418 State Highway 28.
6. Café Ommegang
For beer and food lovers, a trip to Cooperstown isn't complete without a stop at Ommegang Brewery. Lunch is served daily, and dinner most days during the summer months. Expect Belgian fare with a local twist, but all inspired by the beers that are the mainstay. Of course, everything tastes better with a refreshing beer – look for their suggestions on fabulous beer and food pairings and if you love it, hang around for a tour of the brewery after lunch.
Café Ommegang is located at 656 county Route 33.
