One of the best things about a Cooperstown getaway is the ability to make it a quick trip or a leisurely stay, and everything in between. More and more, visitors are coming for a weekend or overnight trip, and looking for the shortest list of must-dos in town. Well, we’ve got it! Here’s our list of everything that must absolutely be packed into a short, 24 hour getaway in Cooperstown.
24 Hours and 5 Must-Dos in Cooperstown
Cooperstown is baseball- You can’t call it a Cooperstown getaway without a trip to our most iconic destination, the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum. At the Hall of Fame, baseball legends are honored, the greatest teams remembered and the history of the sport is revealed in new and exciting ways.
Cooperstown is art - Each year, new exhibits fill the halls at Fenimore Art Museum. In addition to the beautiful Thaw Collection that lives there year-round; interesting, unique and evocative exhibits are changed out multiple times a year, so there is always something new to experience.
Cooperstown is history - History comes to life at The Farmers’ Museum. People of all ages love the hands-on approach, a stroll through the historic village and a visit with the animals that live on their working farm. Their newest exhibit, Hops on Tap, quenches the imagination, showing how hops have been integral to the Cooperstown area for over 100 years.
Cooperstown is craft beverages and breweries - Speaking of hops, beer is a big deal around here. Brewery Ommegang is the most notable brewery, and surely worth a visit. They offer free tours and tastings, a fun way to spend the afternoon just before dinner. For sunset, after-dinner or happy hour, we also recommend the Fire Bar at the Otesaga. Tasty small plates, creative cocktails with local spirits, and local beer and wine fill the menu. But, the view is just as spectacular as the drinks. The Fire Bar sits lakeside with sweeping views, perfect for starting conversation and relaxing.
Cooperstown is fresh food - Hawkeye Bar and Grill at The Otesaga is our top dinner recommendation. No one uses fresh and local ingredients like Hawkeye Grill, and for burger lovers, their Butcher’s Burger is the best in the area. There’s so much more than burgers though, with wood-fired pizzas, steaks, salads, and more filling a menu where there’s something wonderful for any type of eater.
Love life at Leatherstocking Golf Course - If you manage to find a bit of extra time, there’s nothing like a round of golf on Leatherstocking Golf Course, known throughout the country as one of the East’s most scenic courses.
Bounce around on the Cooperstown Beverage Trail - If you are a self-described beer aficionado, or just a lover of craft beverages in general, there’s far more than Brewery Ommegang and the Fire Bar - take an excursion on the Cooperstown Beverage Trail and do as many stops as you have time for.
After all this fun, you’ll need somewhere to rest your head and we know the perfect place - The Cooper Inn. This quaint and charming inn is right in the center of it all, just steps from attractions like the Baseball Hall of Fame and the shops and restaurants in America’s Most Perfect Village®.
